John was the spiritual father I never had, as I know he was to many. He could make me laugh, even when I didn’t want to. One of my best memories was the trip we took to Michigan with several couples from College Park. I have a favorite picture of John and me standing by one of the Great Lakes. I loved it when he and Marge would sing together. The whole Hartzell family has had an impact on my life and they still do.

John was one of the nicest neighbours I ever had anywhere. He was always ready to help, and he always had a smile & a positive outlook. He will be missed very much.

Dear Marj and family,
I am thinking of you and remembering John and his faithfulness when he was a member of Northeast Baptist Church.
It hasn’t been very long since my own husband passed away and it feels very strange but the Lord is with us and that is a great comfort.
I thought that was such a nice article about John’s life and I know you will feel a void in your hearts for him.
God Bless you,
Leslie Piper
Julie Holt says
When we moved to Indianapolis John and Marge became our adopted Indiana Dad & Mom and Grandpa and Grandma to our children. John’s mission in life was to bring a smile to everyone’s face that he met and to glorify His Heavenly Father. My fondest memory of him will always be the day that he accompanied us to the adoption agency to film the arrival of our precious baby daughter in to our family. John, you were my spiritual father and my dear friend. I always knew you were praying for us. I will miss you terribly but I rejoice with you that you are in heaven and that we will see you again. Save me a seat in the choir!
